3. Nintendo 3DS App - Planet Virtual Boy Emulator
One of the target platforms for the emulator initiative is Nintendo 3DS. This is a fairly recent addition to the project goals and as such some additional design needs to be undertaken before a plan of action can be finalized. The reason for making a purpose-built Virtual Boy emulator on 3DS is to provide as much performance as possible and leverage the capabilities of the system.
The 3DS has a stereoscopic display that can be used with Virtual Boy's 3D graphics without the need for special glasses. The parallax configuration present in most Virtual Boy visuals can be adjusted to accommodate the position of the 3DS's 3D slider, retaining the original functionality of the hardware.
3DS also supports wireless communications, both for communicating with other nearby 3DS units or with the internet. While no commercial Virtual Boy games made use of the system's link port, homebrew software can and does, and 3DS is a perfect place to make use of Virtual Boy multiplayer. With the right programming practices, online multiplayer can even be a thing.
Further details will be provided when 3DS development begins in earnest.
